Where is Gräsö and how do I get there?

Gräsö is one of the biggest islands on the east shores of Sweden, close to Öregrund and just 1 hour away from Uppsala. A ferry runs every 20 minutes and even during the night if you call them, and on the island a local bus, bikes or our shuttle vans can be used. Therefore you can make it without a car, allthough it is a bit more practical. Getting to Sweden from Vienna, Italy, Berlin, Achterhoek or wherever else you are travelling from, has many adventurous paths. We highlight a few for you here:

Flying + Rental car: The easy way.

Fly to Stockholm Arlanda Airport (STO), Rent a car and drive 115 km driving to Öregrund.

Roadtrips of your dreams: driving + overnight ferry

The Good Ferry

We recommend taking the Kiel-Gothenburg ferry with Stena Line overnight. This really cuts the drive into half, and the ferry has good beds and a relaxed atmosphere. Prices differ strongly in high- and lowseason, have a good look at the dates! From Gothenburg the drive to Öregrund is 539km. You can book it at: https://www.stenaline.se/

The Cheaper Ferry

Another ferry that is convenient mostly for our travellers from Germany and Austria is the ferry that departs from Trawemünde to Malmö. This ferry is always a bit cheaper, but you do have a longer drive from Malmö to Öregrund (759km). You can book it at  Finnlines: https://www.finnlines.com/.

I love my car : driving all the way

Bridges

For all of you who don’t want a cruise and want to see the dunes of Denmark: drive through the Danish islands, over the bridges of Stora and Lilla Bælt and Öresundsbron (famous from the TV series „Bron“.) Enjoy the Roadtrip!

Ferry hop

There are many short ferry’s between Germany, Denmark and Sweden, so it is worth checking what fits your route and summerplans best. For example Frederikshavn – Gothenburg or Helsingor – Helsingborg,

no car, no ferry, no plane, no Co2!

If you live a day travelling from Hamburg, we recommend taking your first train there and staying in a hostel/hotel (or take a night train there). The next day, you can take the long-distance train Hamburg – Stockholm, then a train from Stockholm - Uppsala, and finally bus 811 from Uppsala to Öregrund.

Departures every hour. Bus schedule: https://www.ul.se/

If you do not have your own car, we recommend staying in Öregrund, at the campsite or the Gräsö Hostel. Here you can also rent bikes to get around on the island.
